Commercial and Community Developments

In addition to residential development, TREK Development Group has undertaken a variety of commercial and community development projects. Ancillary commercial and community development expands the reach of residential communities and further integrates them into their surrounding communities. The co-location of housing and services is a fundamental aspect of sustainable development that not only improves the quality of lives for the residents of the community but also enhances the service providers ability to offer meaningful and cost effective services.

Boys and Girls Club

The Walnut Avenue Recreation Center was built on a blighted property adjacent to a 174 unit public housing community known as Burns Heights, in the City of Duquesne. As part of a comprehensive community stabilization strategy, TREK Development Group collaborated with Allegheny County, the Allegheny County Housing Authority and The Boys and Girls Club of Western Pennsylvania to develop the Walnut Avenue Recreation Center. The recreation center serves Burns Heights residents and the entire community of Duquesne. The center provides a safe haven for the youth of the community.

The property is operated by the Boys and Girls Club of Western Pennsylvania. They provide on-site operations and maintenance staff to run its programs in the new facility. The Boys & Girls Club of Western Pennsylvania is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for youth, with particular emphasis on members who live in urban communities of highly diverse cultures. The primary mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs is to promote health, social, educational, vocational and character development for boys and girls ages 6 through 18, by building self-esteem, values and skills. Upon its opening in late 2005, over 100 children joined the club.

Community LIFE Homestead and Tarentum

TREK believes that how you live is just as important as where you live. To that end, TREK has developed two medical centers on sites owned and operated by Community LIFE. (Living Independently for Elders). Residents can maintain their independence with the holistic health, social and cultural services provided by Community LIFE.

Highlands Senior Center

In addition to the LIFE Center at Tarentum, Dalton's Edge is also the home to the Highland's Senior Center. The Senior Center offers a daily lunch service, bingo, exercise classes, lecture series, dance classes, and more to the residents of Dalton's Edge and the surrounding community.

The Sisters of St. Joseph 1954 Building

The Sisters of St. Joseph redevelopment effort involves the conversion of a portion of a former convent (1954 building) containing approximately 93 dormitory style rooms into a 23 unit one and two bedroom apartment building for seniors (62+). The 6 story brick building is part of a larger campus which contains an elementary school, assisted living facility (Villa of St. Joseph) and living quarters for the congregational members.

This development is located within 1 mile of grocery and retail shopping, pharmacy, banks, places of worship.
